Pedro Muñoz has many festivities and celebrations throughout the year:
On the 17th of January, this festivity commemorates the death of Saint Antonio Abad, patron saint of animals. In the eve of the festivity, bonfires are lit to grill meat, eaten alongside zurra. The day of the festivity, animals are blessed by going in circles around the shrine of “Ntra. Sra. de los Ángeles”.
Masks and costumes are in the spotlight in streets where happiness can be found in the dancing, the passacaglias, chirigotas, contests and the “Gran Desfile de Carnaval”.
One of the main religious festivities of the town. It starts on Palm Sunday, with the image of “la Borriquilla” and “Entrada de Jesús en Jerusalén”. It is worth mentioning the processions on Holy Wednesday with the procession of Silence and the image of “Ntro. Padre Jesús Nazareno”; on Maundy Thursday, in the procession of the Passion, there are a number of images “San Juan Evangelista”, “Oración del Huerto”, “el Beso de Judas”, “la Flagelación” and “Virgen de los Dolores”. On Good Friday the procession “Santo Entierro” counts with images such as “Cristo de la Presentación”, “Jesús con la Cruz a Cuestas”, “Calvario”, “Cristo de la Agonía”, “Piedad”, “Santo Sepulcro” and “Virgen de la Soledad”. In the dawn of Easter Sunday, the processions of “Encuentro con el Resucitado” and the Virgin follow different path until they end up meeting again in the “Plaza de España” and they make a last journey together to the church.
This religious festivity has its origins in the twentieth century, when this town was claimed to have the biggest amount of vehicle per inhabitant in the vicinity. In 1952, the “Hermandad de San Cristóbal” was founded, as he was the saint patron of drivers
During the procession in honour of Saint Cristóbal, drivers carry Saint Cristóbal image to his shrine, after driving in Pedro Muñoz’s streets with their lorries.
FESTIVAL AND FESTIVITIES
Pedro Muñoz celebrates its festivity in honour to our patron saint, the “Virgen Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles”, on the first week of August. August 2nd is the main day of the festival. Festivities are started with the traditional passacaglia of local authorities and “Damas”, along with the “Hermandad de Ntra. Sra. De los Ángeles” and the Music Band. It is worth mentioning the gunpowder that serves as a starting point of the festival. In the “Noche de Gala”, the “Damas” and the “Reina”, alongside their court, star in the ball. Bull fighting festivals do also take place during these days.
It takes place on September, some weeks before grape harvest starts. It is organised by the Folkloric Group “Virgen de los Ángeles”. They dress up as their predecessors used to do, accompanied by a passacaglia. Afterwards, they start to grape-stomping. Later on, they have an afternoon snack together with the performance of regional groups
